Rensair meets Belgian Ministry of Health air purification standards
Rensair has been included within the Belgian Ministry of Health’s list of registered and approved air purification systems.
First and foremost, the Ministry recommends airing and ventilating to limit airborne transmission of Covid-19 in public spaces. It recommends the execution of immediate actions when the CO2 concentration of a room reaches the limit of 900 ppm. In addition to increasing the ventilation rate with fresh air to dilute the concentration of virus, the Ministry acknowledges the role of air purification units that meet the required standards and also recommends adhering to basic rules, such as wearing a mask and maintaining the required distance.
The Ministry of Health in Belgium has issued a ministerial decree that provisionally determines the conditions for placing air purification products on the market in the context of the fight against COVID-19.
The decree states that manufacturers of ventilation and purification products must follow certain rules to market products intended for public spaces. The goal is twofold:
- To have visibility over and control of the product offerings made available to the public.
- To ratify claims relating to the levels of effectiveness in real conditions against SARS-CoV-2 and to guarantee the safety of products on sale in the Belgian market.
The decree specifies the standards to be observed for mobile air purification units. These include:
- Technical standards that guarantee levels of effectiveness of the product against SARS-CoV-2. For products that qualify, performance claims must be substantiated.
- Filters meet the HEPA class H13 or HEPA class H14 standards.
- The wavelength of UVC lamps must be between 220 and 280 nm to inactivate SARS-CoV-2. UVC lamps must be placed in a box from which no light can escape and comply with recognized safety standards EN IEC 60335-2-65 in the case of a closed system, or recognized safety standards EN IEC 62471 and IEC PAS 63313 in the case of an open system.
- Air flow rates must be expressed in m3 per hour and guaranteed between a value of two to five air changes per hour (ACH) for a given room volume.
Products that are considered dangerous to human health are prohibited. These include:
- Ozone, cold plasma systems;
- Systems that use UV-C and do not follow the conditions set out in Article 3(7) and Article 4(8);
- The combination of UV and photocatalytic solids (mainly TiO2);
- Ionization of the air without capturing precipitates;
- Misting with hydrogen peroxide.
