Air purifier buyers – beware!

Marzo 23, 2022 – <1 Min

The air purification market is unregulated. Many sellers make unsubstantiated claims about their machines, which in many cases use technology that is not recommended and potentially dangerous. While both the UK Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), that advises the UK Government, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) publish clear guidance on air purifiers, many organisations are still purchasing units that fall very short of those recommendations.

To assist buyers, Rensair has already published a summary of the health authorities’ guidance, but this update goes one step further. It highlights 5 really important points to check before purchasing any air purifier to ensure that it will actually work and not create a dangerous indoor environment.

The 5 points cover:

  1. Will the unit clean all the room air, or just the air close to it?
  2. Does the unit have a pre-filter? If not, it will not clean the air.
  3. Does the unit use the right technology or are you exposing yourself to harmful chemicals?
  4. If there is a UVC light, has it been placed in the correct place? If not, it will be of no use.
  5. Do not be drawn in by marketing gimmicks!
