Lytchett Minster School in Dorset is a thriving secondary school and sixth form, educating around 1,500 students (ages 11-18) and employing about 100 staff. Its campus combines historic 17th-century manor architecture with modern facilities, a setting that presents both charm and challenges when it came to upgrading ventilation during COVID-19.
When the pandemic struck, the school leadership sought scientifically grounded solutions to improve indoor air safety. After careful evaluation, they selected Rensair’s portable, hospital-grade air purifiers, considered among the best air purifiers for schools and universities, to support safer reopening and ongoing campus use.

Lytchett Minster School needed a solution to maintain safe indoor air without disrupting lessons. Natural ventilation was limited in winter, and some rooms couldn’t be aired effectively. The school required a system that was quiet, efficient, and capable of protecting staff and students from airborne pathogens.
In the first lockdown, keeping windows and doors open was manageable because of the milder weather. But once winter arrived, relying solely on natural ventilation became unworkable: “students had to wear their coats in class,” recalled the school’s Business Manager, Kieren Hasler. Further, certain rooms due to their layout or location couldn’t receive adequate fresh air. As a result, the school was faced with two unappealing options: stop using those rooms or find an alternative method to clean the air.
Lytchett Minster needed something more than just an air filter. Their criteria included:
These requirements narrowed their options significantly.
Rensair offered scientifically proven air purification, removing up to 99.97% of airborne pathogens. Its plug-and-play simplicity, quiet operation, and ability to cover large spaces made it ideal for classrooms, allowing the school to improve safety and continue teaching without disruption.

Rensair’s technology has been independently tested in accredited labs and shown to remove or kill up to 99.97% of airborne pathogens, including viruses. Its patented design pairs filtration with UV-C treatment, making it more than just a purifier, it’s a sanitising device.
For a busy school environment, ease of operation is essential. The staff appreciated that Rensair units are “plug and play” literally: plug in, turn on, and let them run.
Lytchett Minster installed five Rensair devices in key high-risk zones:

By targeting these critical nodes, they maximised safety without over-investing in unnecessary units.
